The blog post “Why Linux…?” gives us a background on Linux and what we could gain from using Linux.
Regarding the background to Linux, the blog entry mentions the security benefits of using it as well as an idea that it is an operating system which has improved so that users young and old alike might all be able to use it. It also gave a link t an article about security.
As for the benefits, it emphasizes the freedom that comes with using Linux. Also points out that Microsoft has stopped giving disks for its pre-installed software. The blog entry also mentioned that if you don’t want DRM, then you look for other options. Go open source, is basically what it says.
Overall, I think that the blog entry is trying to communicate to the users that software freedom is for us, not against us. And the [...]

What is your favorite messaging client on Linux? I’d like to know why and in particular, what are the advantages for you.
Choices are:
Pidgin
GyachI
Kopete
Empathy
I’ve only listed down those that I know of and have tried at one point in time or another. Right now, I’d have to admit that I am still using Pidgin mainly for everything. I couldn’t switch to Empathy yet because I still don’t know what’s wrong with it and as I’ve been busy with work, I haven’t been able to give it much time either. But I’d so love to use Empathy because of voice calls. Even though I have a Skype account, I’d rather use Google Talk’s voice chat feature because most of my contacts are there.
I suppose that the popularity of messaging protocols might vary from country to country but I’d still like to know what your favorite messaging client [...]

What GNU/Linux / FLOSS podcasts does everyone recommend listening too?
I currently listen to FLOSS Weekly, Linux Basement, Linux Outlaws, The Linux Action Show, and The Linux Linux Tech Show right now and I was interested in picking up a few more decent ones if possible.
I had been listening to LUG Radio as well but unfortunately they are no longer making new podcasts.
Anyway, Definitely feel free to plug your own related podcast if you want and I’ll give it a try.

If you’re planning to use Linux, you have to first start considering the hardware you have. There are certain known devices which seem to be problematic when it comes to working with Linux.
For laptop users, you could check out Linux on Laptops. They are sorted by brand. You could also look at TuxMobil so that you have other ideas when it comes to laptops. I am not sure how deep the coverage is of both sites, but there’s pretty much a lot of information in both of them. Again, the lists are grouped according to manufacturer. You could also look at the information available on the various user forums and wikis. For Ubuntu users, there’s the Ubuntu Laptop Testing team wiki. If you want to know if your laptop is compatible with OpenSuse, they also have a list of laptop compatibility [...]
