Can’t live without Emacs

Every time I install Linux I make sure that I install Emacs. Actually even on Windows, I install Emacs It’s a text editor which people say is hard to learn. They have a point but you see, Emacs is one fascinating text editor. It has a lot of features and extensions or macros. It’s really complex and amazing all at the same time. Some people call it an ‘operating system’ and that it has everything but the kitchen sink. Some people are said to live in Emacs. I blame a friend for introducing me to Planner-el, a planner for Emacs. And there are really so much more that I love about Emacs but maybe it’s because I am such a fangirl.
Emacs lets me do the following:

Organize my tasks and notes - via Planner, Remember and Org mode.
Play music […]

Hit or Miss: Prada Laptop Bag

“Prada Laptop Bag.” The very words excite me and make my heart beat just a little bit faster. This surely won’t be your run of the mill laptop bag, this will be a high-quality, gorgeous, haute couture accessory for carrying your ever valuable notebook. It is PRADA for goodness sake!
And then I get a glance at it… and it’s patent leather. And faded, silver to black.

Worst of all is the accompanying price tag - a bank-breaking $1,116! Although the design is far less than I would have expected from Prada, the price tag is right on point. It’s got a 52″ shoulder strap, is 12″ wide x11″ tall and 2″ deep, with a lightly padded interior. This product is obviously all about the name brand here. It’s available from discount designer website Bluefly.com.
But, I suppose we […]

The $94,000 Cell Phone…. Is This Really Necessary??

The Prada and Giorgio Armani phones are one thing, but this…. well this is quite another. Japanese mobile company Softbank Mobile is teaming up with Tiffany & Co to create a nearly $100,000 cell phone (exact price tag is 10 million yen or $94,000 USD). This luxury mobile phone is adorned in 400 diamonds for a total of 20 carats. Ask any girl you know - if there is anyone that knows diamonds, it’s Tiffany’s!

Well at least it’s pretty. SIKE! My eyes, my eyes! That thing is OOOOGALAY!
As if the rich folks really need another gadget to tote around and leave the rest of us bitter about. This is truly insane!
Anticipated launch date between Feb and March of this year. I wonder if it’ll come in the little blue box?

Linux advocacy doodles

Sometimes you can’t help but doodle on your notebook while you’re waiting for someone or maybe you doodle on an index card which you use as a bookmark. Why not doodle something that would advocate Linux?
I was doodling on one of index cards and it was a penguin so I noted something to remind of what I was writing about (compiling a kernel).

Maybe you’ve got some doodles of your own. Share them here Comment with the link to the file of the drawing/artwork you made and let’s see how you spread your Linux love!

Link love: Sources on Compiling a Linux Kernel

I previously wrote about when you’re probably going to compile a Linux kernel. I admit that I am not an expert on this topic but I’d like to point out some things that would eventually prove to be useful or at least give you an idea as to how you could do this.
HowToForge.com has a bunch of how to compile a Linux kernel for several distros:

How to compile a kernel the Fedora way
How to compile a kernel the Ubuntu way
How to compile a kernel the CentOS way
How to compile a kernel the Debian way
How to compile a kernel the SuSE way

Digital Hermit has a rather long guide but it covers compiling both 2.4 and 2.6 Linux kernels. So whether your Linux distro is using whichever kernel, this guide might be quite useful for you.
Another important thing to note is that configuring the kernel could seem to be a […]
