I wanted to wish everyone out there a happy new year.
Hopefully you all had a relatively safe night and didn’t get too drunk during the celebration.
On the flip side you just might gain superhuman programming ability for the duration of your drunken stupor according to xkcd. If that is the case, we will gladly put you to work on Openbox for the night :p
Now it is time to get off my virtual soapbox for the night and fulfill the task of petting and reassuring my two greyhounds that everything is okay since the fireworks are scaring the crap out of them.

Every so often I get an impulsive desire to try something new and yesterday morning was no different.
While sitting at the computer and catching up on my RSS feeds I decided it was time to take zsh for a spin and thus my adventure for the day had begun.
To be honest, I had thought about trying zsh once before but I didn’t bother in the end because I have always been somewhat of a bash devotee. Up until now bash was the only shell I have used since the Red Hat 5.x days.

Openbox is in need of some people to help test the upcoming 3.4.5 release.
If you are interested, please download openbox-3.4.5-test and report any bugs that you find to the Openbox Bugzilla so that they can be properly tracked.
When filing bug reports, please include the best way for the developers to reproduce the problem and check to see if a similar bug report as already been filed.
Current 3.4.5 Changelog:
Updated Finnish, Russian, German and French translations
Fixed some very minor memory leaks
Hide the desktop popup when showing the focus popup
Fix a crash when trying to access the More… menu of client-list-combined-menu
Fix the coordinate popup only showing up on the first monitor in xinerama

If it’s easy to learn and easy to use, how come people are still installing Windows on the EEE PC?
I was chatting with a friend who just installed Windows on the EEE PC. His family would prefer to use Windows over the customized Linux installed on it by default.
Ah well.
But it still doesn’t mean that Linux sucks, right? It’s more like Linux still hasn’t really gotten enough mindshare yet so people don’t know that they could use it without much trouble if they only give it time. Then again, people would want to be able to use something immediately so if they’d want to be more productive with it, they’d want something more familiar. It’s human nature, I suppose? Maybe the “Windows XP-ness” (some people say that its color scheme and style of the icons look so Windows XP-like) of Linux on the EEE PC [...]
